Stokes assumption and Polar coordinates

Hi all!

The objective of this post is to explain the stokes approximation (used in the Navierstokes relations regarding the bulk viscosity) in a simpler way and elucidate the transformation of cartesian to polar using chain rule. I have derived the transformation explicitly for continuity and shown how to do it for momentum equations, which should be similar. The starting point of the derivation will be the ubiquitous Navier Stokes equation, which I quote without deriving it.

Please find the pdf below. Lots of equtions, so went for tex :-)

report4_NS+STOKES+POLAR.

I will post the derivation of Reynold’s equation from Navier stokes or fundamental principles when I get around to that..

Hope you find this useful.
